Finzelberg: Environmental management re-verified following audit

  • Finzelberg again validated by the EU’s EMAS scheme
  • CO₂e emissions reduced by more than 55 percent since 2020 (approx. 9,400 tonnes)
  • Latest Sustainability Magazine clearly reports on key progress

Finzelberg GmbH has once again been validated by the EU’s Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS). The certificate was presented by the Koblenz Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the Andernach site on June 30th.

EMAS validation confirmed

EMAS is one of the world’s most demanding systems for environmental management. It requires participating organizations to systematically record their environmental performance, implement improvements, and undergo regular auditing by independent environmental verifiers. Finzelberg’s on-site audit took place over several days in March 2026 at the Andernach and Sinzig sites. The results were published in a validated environmental statement, which can be viewed on the website: Umwelterklärung 2025

Finzelberg implements EMAS requirements at its Andernach and Sinzig sites and has reported on the progress made there annually since 2023. This year’s EMAS validation constitutes external re-verification of the systematic environmental management at the Andernach site.

The EMAS certificate was presented by Andrea Romacher of the Koblenz Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Finzelberg management board member Dr. Tobias Beck then gave Ms. Romacher a tour of the site, providing valuable insights into the production process and explaining the crucial role of environmental and sustainability topics in Finzelberg’s corporate strategy.

How Finzelberg is reducing its emissions

Finzelberg reduced CO₂e emissions by more than 55 percent from 2020 to 2025 – that’s around 9,400 tonnes. At its German sites in Andernach and Sinzig, the company achieved a neutral carbon footprint in Scopes 1 and 2 for the 2025 business year. The key element behind that success is the biomass heating plant at the Andernach site, which went into operation in January 2025. The plant is fired with woodchips from regional waste wood and windfall timber and supplies around 60 percent of the heating energy required at the site. The share of self-generated renewable energy is currently at 58 percent. The plant replaces around 27,000 MWh of natural gas each year and reduces site-related CO2e emissions by around 6,300 tonnes.
